Hi there! Hopefully everyones having a great weekend so far. As many of you know, we got hit with a major snowstorm here on the East coast!!!! My husband is snowplowing right now as I write this tutorial!!!! Looks like we got about 7 inches of the white powdery snow. Poor guy, he'll be out there for at least a couple hours, so I made sure to load him up on a good old fashioned american breakfast with a stackful of pancakes, a fruit smoothie, and several cups of coffee !!! Anyway, I hope I didn't make you wait too long, but I had no other time to do this and actually went a few steps to reinact my recipe and measurements for you which include some pics of the colors I used after mixing them. So, thanks so much for your patience and I wish you all the luck in the world!!!! Now go out and make your beautiful homemade banners, and please send me your pics through facebook or send them to my email.
Supplies needed~
1.Your choice of fabric ( I bought mine at Walmart) Sorry, don't know the exact type, but assume it's a cotton blend. You'll need at least 2 yds.
2.Your gold paint for the lettering. The exact kind I used is by FolkArt called Metallic.
3. Unfortunately, I can't help with the exact lettering font because that's where my multi talented husband stepped in and drew the letters freehand. Practice, practice, practice. However, I can give you the exact measurements of the lettering. The E is the largest and measures 5" X 3". The other letters measure approximately 3 and3/4th's X 1.5 inches. The crown was something we found by Googling " pictures of crowns". Choose any crown from there, you have a number to choose from. My crown measures 7.5 X 5.2 inches at it's tallest center.
4.My banner measures 22" X 40".
5. One wooden dowel, and paint that the same gold as the lettering. You may also buy the chain, and paint your chain too. I had my own chain already, however I'm sure you can find chain at Michaels or Hobby Lobby.
My RIT recipe~
1. I used a half CAPFUL of Petal pink and slightly less than half CAPFUL of Purple into 4 cups of super hot water in my sink. I use a large whisk to mix my two colors thouroughly!!!!! I can't stress that part enough!!!!!! I then submerge the fabric right in and make sure one side has completely absorbed the color and within a couple minutes and I turn the fabric over and do the same thing.
2. I then drain the color and remove fabric from the sink and I squeeze the water color right out. I dont rinse just yet.
3. Refill sink again with 4 cups super hot water and add a half CAPFUL of Tan, whisk thouroughly, and repeat my steps with mixing and allowing the fabric to absorb the color properly and submerge the fabric, then you RINSE with COLD water to lock in the color. Then either line dry or throw the fabric in the dryer. Either works fine, just depends on your patience.
4. After the fabric dries, begin your lettering and drawing your crown. Paint the lettering and crown, then sew the top from left to right. Insert your painted dowel with chain already attached and hang your beautiful banner!
Here are the other helpful pics I took~

This is the mixture of Petal Pink and Purple with 4 cps hot water.

This is what your fabric should look like after that first step.

This is the color that it looks like with the half capful of Tan and super hot water after thouroughly mixing.

This is what the fabric should look like after dyeing in the Tan, its drying in the sun here.

The banner I chose by Googling " crowns".
That's it ! I hope that all my recommendations, steps, and recipes will help you. I can't tell you how happy I am with mine and you will LOVE yours! There's nothing like the inspiration of other art, but it's also important to make yours your own.
Have fun, and I look forward to seeing some beautiful banners being made!
XOXO~ Steph
